Meet Veteran Ron D. Briscoe of Dallas City, born in La Harpe, a 1963 graduate of Nauvoo Colusa, son of Elbert Francis and Bertha Marie Briscoe. Ron grew up on a farm outside Colusa. He has a twin brother and an older brother. He worked at a Carthage service station until November "63 when he went to the U.S. Army at Ft. Leonardwood, MO. He was sent to Virginia for training on heavy equipment. He then was sent by train to California and to Vietnam by ship that took 22 days. He said he wouldn't want to do that again. Ron served in Vietnam 13 months. He did everything from hauling supplies, building an air strip, working on equipment to everything else, he said. "I married a Nauvoo girl before going overseas, we had 8 month old Robin." Ron was honorably discharged September 1966. He lived in Nauvoo, later Carthage, Chatsworth and worked at J.I. Case in Burlington, IA, Firestone Co., LaMoine Seed Equipment Co., Gehl Farm Equipment short-line company as District Sales Representative, Frueheuf Company, and Home Depot in Quincy for 11 years. He also has done carpenter work for Shellor Globe, Keokuk and Sheaffer Pen, Ft.Madison, IA. After a divorce he moved to Geneseo for 1 year, still with Gehl, and he married Pat St. Ores from Dallas City in 1975. He has two step-children Eric Dunn and Bryan Dunn, two daughters Amanda in Carthage and Ronda in Quincy, and 13 grandchildren. He enjoys remodeling work, antique tractors and old stuff, and being with the grandkids and traveling. |
