Kale Is Coming Home

Burgdorf brothers to reunite

Specialists Chris Burgdorf and Kale Burgdorf of La Harpe, sons of Mr and Mrs. Kevin Burgdorf of Media are pictured above prior to their deployment to Iraq in October 2004 after special ceremonies in Roseville let them know they honored their service to the United States.

Both sons are members of the 123rd Field Artillery out of Galesburg. Upon deployment, the brothers were split up with Chris returning home in January.

After fourteen months, Kale returned to the United States and is presently at Ft. Dix in New Jersey.

"Kale is one of twenty-five of the final ones out of the Galesburg National Guard to arrive in Moline International Airport on either Sunday or Monday then bussed to Galesburg. We do not know yet," Cale's mother said with anxiety in her voice, "but we will all be there (Galesburg) when he arrives."

Kale's wife, Heather (Brissey) Burgdorf of La Harpe, his sister Callie Burgdorf, and brother and Guardsman Chris Burgdorf and his wife Becca, all living in La Harpe, will be part of the enthusiastic welcome home crew.

"We plan to all go out to dinner afterwards and celebrate and will then have a welcome home party for both sons later," she said.

The Burgdorfs have appreciated those who gave phone cards, money, or sent packages.

There are some serving overseas that never receive anything, packages or even a card means so much to each soldier.
