by Scott Postle, Special For the Quill

West Central Girls turned up the heat Tuesday night in the first round of the Sectional at Macomb, defeating 8th ranked Camp Point Central 53-40.

The Heat used balanced scoring with four players in double digits.

"We are a very dangerous team when everyone is involved in the offense" said Senior forward Kayla Coffey.

With tenacious defense the Heat held the Lady Panthers to 35 total shots.

"It was a total team effort." said Head Coach Jim Cole. "This team is to the point where they don't have to rely on one player to carry the team. Everyone is contributing."

Leading the scoring for the Heat was freshman Miriam Rutzen with 14 points. Kayla Coffey added 12, with Darci Renken and Lene Lox adding 11 and 10 points respectively. Amy Hull, Randi Short, and Brittany Fox contributed two each to round out the scoring.

The West Central Girls advance to the Sectional Championship game at 7:30 Thursday evening at Macomb High School against the number one seeded Carthage Bluegirls.

West Central Senior Darci Renken advanced in the 3 point shoot out and will be competing before the game on Thursday.
