The West Central 7th and 8th grade boys basketball teams are off to a great start this season. At the halfway point the 8th grade squad is playing steady with a 4 - 4 record. Early wins have come against Cuba, United, West Prairie and Westmer.
Among their losses was a heart breaker last Saturday Morning to a physical Avon team. After being down by 11 at half the scrappy squad pull to within 1 with 6 seconds left. Avon hit a couple free throws to seal the deal down the stretch.
This is a very hard working and exciting group to watch with their up tempo style. The team is comprised of: Tyler Anderson, Blake Evans, Brock Heap, Sam Hilton, Kyle Mesecher, Ethan Lafary, Ethan Pullen, Logan Stogdill, Alex Allaman and Eric Hilligoss. The 8th grades next game will be Tuesday night as the Heat hosts Southeastern in Stronghurst 7th grade game to start at 6:00 with 8th to follow.
The Heat 7th grade team finds themselves in the hunt for a conference tournament title crown as they play Thursday night, December 7th against Abingdon in Colchester. The road to the final game has traveled through Avon Saturday Morning and then past LaHarpe Monday night in the semi-final match up.
The 7th grade record currently stands at 6 - 3 as they have defeated Cuba, United, West Prairie, Westmer, Avon and LaHarpe. This group is gelling well playing good defense and improving every night offensively. The 7th grade roster is: Wesley Cheeley, Austin Bigger, Johnny Ryffel, Trey Goff, Floyd Peel, Austin Pullen, Michael Kane, Brandon Brent, Colin Olson, Blake Durflinger, Tim Holford, Chris Cooper, and Dustin Hawk.
Come on out and support them Thursday Night 6:00 in Colchester. Their next regular season game is Tuesday night December 12th in Stronghurst.
