CIVIL COURT: In October 1841 Judge Stephen A. Douglas was on the bench trying a case involving Harvey Russell and Samuel Sharp.

A jury found for the plaintiff awarding him $85(today that would be $1,227.34), a huge sum for that period of time.

Two jurors were fined $5.00 each(today the fine would be $72.50) for contempt; they did not appear for service when summoned. Other cases concerned upholding the peace.
