Meet Don Fry, your neighbor from Stronghurst. Don was raised in Brown County Illinois in Hersman/Mt. Sterling area. He and his three sisters and parents lived on a farm. He graduated from Brown County High School. Don attended two years at Western Illinois University, and after two years at Illinois State graduated with his Bachelors of Science degree in Vocational Agriculture, then obtained his Masters at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana. He met his wife, Carolyn Detrick of Biggsville, a Union High School graduate at WIU in Macomb. She was taking classes downstairs while Don was upstairs in the Applied Science building. Carolyn graduated with her B.S. degree in Home Economics. The couple were married in 1967 at Biggsville United Presbyterian Church and moved to Bardolph where they taught school. They moved to Sherrard the next year where they both taught until Carolyn quit to be mom. Jennifer was born in 1970 and Kent in 1974. Jennifer married Mike Tallman and stays home to be a mother to their daughter Sophia in Stoughton, WI home. Kent is in Quincy working as Assistant Golf Pro at Quincy Country Club. He has one daughter Madison. In 1976 they moved to Stronghurst where Don taught Vo Ag at Southern High School. Since 1987, he has worked for the USDA Farm Services Agency in Burlington, Iowa. Carolyn is the county librarian. Don is active as an Elder at the Presbyterian Church in Stronghurst, enjoys construction, woodworking, landscaping, traveling, and visiting their granddaughters. |
