Meet Your Neighbor

By Holly Willdrick/The Quill

Meet your neighbors Bob and Alice Wiley. Bob was born in Oakville, IA and later moved to Morning Sun, IA. Alice was born in Burlington, IA and then later moved to Louisa County.

They both graduated from Morning Sun High School, Bob in '52 and Alice in '55. However, they didn't meet until after high school.

Alice was good friends with Bob's sister and that is how their paths crossed. They were married in September 1956. So if you do the math, they will be celebrating 50 years together this coming September.

The Wiley's moved to La Harpe in the late 1960's with their two daughters, Sandy Pence and Debbie (Dan) Evans.

Bob found work at the local meat locker and was able to purchase it in the early 1970's. Bob ran the locker with the help of his wife up until 2001.

At that time he went to work for Weber's Locker in Carthage were he worked for three years before retiring. Alice also held a job with Methode in Carthage for 17 1/2 years before she retired.

Bob and Alice have been blessed with five grandchildren. Shannon (Felicia) Pence, Amber (Jason) Duncan, Andrew Pence, Skyler Pence, and Cliff Evans.

They also have four great grandchildren, Sidney, Taylor, and Sawyer Pence and Jack Duncan. Amber and Jason are expecting their second child this month.

In their free time Alice likes to work with flowers and watch the humming birds that visit their yard.

Bob is a member of the Lions Club, American Legion, Car Club, and a volunteer for the La Harpe Ambulance Service.
